DAMP Lab Undergraduate “Colonies” Program
Every semester, the DAMP Lab hosts undergraduates to perform cutting-edge research through our “Colonies” program. This initiative allows students to shadow and collaborate with full-time DAMP Lab researchers on projects spanning experimental automation, computational infrastructure, and administrative logistics.
- The Experience
Students work in teams on semester-long activities that bridge the gap between molecular biology experimentation and computer programming. While these are currently unpaid positions, they provide:
-
Invaluable hands-on experience in a professional lab setting.
-
Direct mentorship from senior researchers.
-
Networking opportunities within the synthetic biology community.
-
Pathways to paid research positions in subsequent semesters upon successful completion.
- How to Join
Interested students should attend one of our weekly sync-up meetings. If you are interested but unable to attend, please reach out directly to Prof. Douglas Densmore.
